Tip from the Trade: Rugs are the Foundation of Good Design
Rugs offer a room the longevity of timeless design. These high quality heirloom pieces are selected most often with the express purpose of having lifetimes worth of use in a home and in a family. And like anything meant to endure time, there must be a strong foundation.
Like the foundations of the rug itself, comprised of millions of fibers and thousands of knots created by the hands of artists, the anchoring foundation in a room’s design is that very rug that rests on the floor.
The rug selection process is very personal, much like selecting art for your walls.
Whether working with a designer or intuitively designing the space yourself, it’s a process that begins with thousands of options being very quickly narrowed down with only a few questions: what colors, traditional or contemporary, all over pattern or medallion, the size, the budget and how the rug will be used in the space.
Initial rug selections at the beginning of your design process can sometimes spark inspiration, perhaps giving you new eyes in your vision for the space or even potentially freeing up room or in your budget. The value of quality rugs, whether modern or antique, can vary dramatically depending on the provenance, the age, the history of the rug. Selecting these pieces early in your design process affords you the flexibility to determine the investment you want to make in your rug in respect to the larger project.
At King’s House, we love playing a role in these early stages of the design process and figuring out what that perfect rug is for you, your home, your family. We welcome you to schedule an appointment in our showroom, a truly unique and entirely personalized experience. We want to help you hone in on your vision by curating a selection of rugs from our vast inventory based on any specs you may share with us beforehand or even based on just a few simple questions.
Join us over coffee or champagne as we establish that foundation for your room.
As they say in Turkey, “A cup of coffee commits one to 40 years of friendship.” We look forward to it!
