Classic Chic: Blue & White Hand-Woven Kelim
We love the beautiful juxtaposition in the dining room below, designed by Birmingham, Alabama interior designer, Caroline Gidiere. The sun-washed stripes of our kelim, “Louise” with its ever so slightly slubby texture from our hand-spun wool perfectly grounding the soft florals of this gracious dining room.
Woven in central Turkey, this collection of handwoven kelims is inspired by the hues and textures of the villages of northern Provence. We found inspiration for this collection in the beautiful patina the Provencial architecture takes on from its original pigment to the sun-washed quality it acquires over time. The colors are reminiscent of the way we dye our wool to slightly deeper shades and then put a great deal of time and care into perfecting the yarn and its colors under the strong central Anatolian sun. This particular colorway’s inspiration was drawn initially from the homes in the photos and a custom project we collaborated on with Caroline Gidiere for the piece that is on our loom in the pictures below.
