King’s House Oriental Rugs owner, Christin Terrell found this gorgeous modern rug recently on a sourcing trip in Central Anatolia. She was enchanted with the combination of technique and color of this beautiful room-sized rug.

Adyin’s uniqueness lies in the combination of techniques: the rug is constructed as a heavy, slubby woven kelim while also having the raised pile of a Turkish tulu rug. This creates the beautiful high/low texture and design.

The wool itself is a significant standout in this rug, as well. Turkish wool is far superior to wool from other parts of the world. (We like to attribute it to happy sheep!)

You can see how the hand-spun Turkish wool creates an authentic slubbiness to the field that simply cannot be fabricated otherwise. This wool is hand-dyed in small batches, and you can see how it achieves a variety of shades, including those stunning undulating blue tones in the raised pile.

We have a small selection of these modern rugs that combine the tulu technique with a kelim weave, or are available by custom order, hand-woven by our master weavers in Central Anatolia.
